In Conversation with Prachi Misra
Following her award win, we sat down with Misra to discuss her career, challenges, and what the future holds.
Please provide a brief overview of your business or what you do within the company.
I have dedicated 20 years to my career as an Operations expert. I have experience working with two companies from the Blackstone portfolio as well as with McKinsey & Company. In my role with Blackstone portfolio companies, I managed global spend amounting to billions. I was brought on board at McKinsey as a procurement expert to provide strategic advice to C-suite executives regarding their procurement strategies. Recently, I have assumed an advisory role at HSBC, acting as an expert advising the executives of Procurement and Technology operations to enhance the resilience of technology operations and significantly minimise downtime in operations.
What would you attribute as the main reason for your success?
My primary motivation is a strong resolve to continue moving forward. I enjoy engaging in high-impact projects that are acknowledged as some of the best in the industry. I have deliberately decided to shape my career trajectory by working with top-tier private equity and leading strategy consulting firms. I also strive for acknowledgement at both national and regional levels, as achieving these accolades reflects the calibre of my work in the industry. My final step towards success involves building a network of accomplished companies and mentors who can support me on my journey.
What has been the biggest challenge you have overcome?
Convincing the C-suite to embrace new initiatives grounded in facts and figures while collaborating with external partners has consistently posed the greatest challenge. Private equity settings require rapid returns on investment, leading to the hiring of external partners and the rapid deployment of initiatives. One initiative involved having auditory firms assess our licence counts and recommend corrective actions. This ultimately resulted in the implementation of a Software Asset Management (SAM) tool accompanied by external maintenance services. By purchasing the right number and types of licenses and implementing SAM to oversee them, we could achieve a 25% reduction in our annual running costs.

I would say there were multiple reasons – the spotlight was to create the Customer Care Centre in an Eastern European country. I co-led an initiative to relocate more than 100 customer care support centres to an Eastern European country for a firm. All customer care support functions operated independently with their own distinct models. Transferring these jobs from various countries to one country required careful management, demonstrating empathy and financial and operational astuteness to ensure that client operations remained uninterrupted and revenue was not adversely affected. I could undertake this in partnership with strategic allies, support from the government, and the operations executives. This initiative was ranked top 2 by Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Chain in Best Supplier Management category and was also covered in Forbes.
What is the next big step for you?
I have always found the private equity world intriguing – the idea of joining a company, transforming it, and increasing its value by 4X-10X is captivating. In the future, I aspire to return to private equity portfolio firms in a C-suite position or to join their advisory arm as an Operations Expert.
Would you recommend Business Awards UK to other businesses? If so, why?
What genuinely distinguishes Business Awards UK is that they provide an opportunity for individuals and small businesses to shine on their own merit. The majority of the rewards are designed for large organisations. Individuals and small businesses may find it difficult to attend the award ceremony due to the high cost. Second, they treat you like winners with publicity packages, prizes, and social media platforms, ensuring that you get the recognition you deserve. Finally, they offer an expedient application form, and once the applications are received, their evaluation process is well-timed to announce results within a short period of time. I would strongly encourage individuals and small businesses to apply for these awards.
