A journey defined by commercial ambition and considerable personal resilience has earned Alex Milburn of Comms Installations the title of UK Business Leader of the Year. After investing in the telecoms business when it had only a small team and a turnover of around £300,000, Alex helped establish the strategy, structure and client relationships needed to support rapid expansion. Now Managing Director and a 50% shareholder, he has overseen its development into an employer of more than 100 people, with the company on track to generate £10 million in annual revenue.

Substantial investment in South Yorkshire has strengthened Symphony Group’s position as Manufacturer of the Year. The Barnsley-based manufacturer produces more than 3,000 fitted kitchens each week and operates from over 1.3 million square feet of manufacturing and distribution space. Its recent £30 million headquarters expansion, advanced production capabilities and continued product development demonstrate an ability to innovate at scale, while its approach to recycled materials, waste reduction and carbon reporting supports more responsible long-term growth.

Commercial expertise is combined with practical construction experience at Volarex Commercial Consultants Ltd, our Business Consultancy of the Year. Its bespoke frameworks help contractors improve forecasting, commercial reporting, governance and operational oversight rather than relying on generic advisory models. By integrating live operational information with tailored commercial systems, Volarex has helped clients improve reporting accuracy, protect margins and make better-informed decisions across complex projects and portfolios.

Created specifically to recognise, support and connect carers, Peopleoo has been named Technology Business of the Year. More than 300 carers contributed to the platform’s development, helping shape features that address isolation, limited peer support and the lack of portable recognition within the care sector. Since launching publicly in October 2025, the South Yorkshire-developed platform has attracted more than 2,000 registered users and organisations, demonstrating clear demand for technology that places the wellbeing of carers at its centre.

A strong focus on workforce competence and operational readiness underpins Paradox Medical Services Ltd’s recognition with the Healthcare Leadership Award. Its leadership team has introduced structured development pathways, practical scenario-based training and competency validation designed to prepare healthcare professionals for demanding real-world situations. This approach has supported the organisation’s growth while maintaining an emphasis on clinical governance, staff confidence, patient care and community safety.

Person-centred support is central to the work of Horizon Care, winner of Best Home Care Provider. The organisation supports people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, brain injuries and complex trauma, tailoring care around individual circumstances and aspirations. Alongside helping people build independence and stability, Horizon invests in its workforce through Real Living Wage employment, paid pre-employment training, wellbeing support and digital recognition tools that connect carers working across dispersed settings.

Four decades of experience, continued investment and a close-knit family culture have helped Hallam Express Ltd secure Haulage Company of the Year. The Rotherham business provides transport, pallet delivery and warehousing services from a 220,000-square-foot distribution centre, with turnover rising by 92% between 2021 and 2025. Investment in real-time tracking, efficient vehicles, electric handling equipment and its Warehouse to Wheels development programme reflects a balanced approach to customer service, sustainability and workforce progression.

Making community events more accessible for children with special educational needs and disabilities is the purpose behind Goodysphere, named Most Innovative Family Business. Founded by a husband-and-wife team following a deeply personal family loss, the social enterprise operates a rainforest-themed mobile sensory bus across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and surrounding areas. Its sensory sessions, inclusive characters and Makaton-supported storybooks give families practical tools and welcoming spaces in which children can regulate, participate and feel represented.

A flexible network of independent recruitment professionals has enabled Jiggle to build a distinctive model and earn the title of Permanent Recruitment Agency of the Year. Supported by a central team in South Yorkshire, its recruiters provide specialist expertise and personalised service across a growing range of sectors. Continued turnover growth, investment in technology and predictive insight, and a commitment to fair pay, flexible working and professional development have supported expansion without compromising its people-first approach.

Accessibility and consistent communication distinguish Barge Estates as Sales Estate Agent of the Year. Operating seven days a week, the independent agency was established to give sellers and buyers reliable support throughout the sales and conveyancing process, including during the moments when conventional agency hours can leave clients without guidance. Growth to approximately 250 clients within two and a half years, driven largely by repeat business and recommendations, reflects the trust created by its responsive and highly personal service.
